Lalique - Crystal Edition Limited Edition 'Athlétes' Parfum Extract

The body has always been an inexhaustible source of inspiration for Lalique, particularly the male body, which is represented through sport and its strength. As early as 1920, a historical allusion can be found in the form of an enlarged frieze of athletes preparing for a wrestling match. For Lalique's 2009 limited edition, masculinity is expressed through the practice of sport, the importance of action and exertion: 'Athlétes'. Here, the marble sculpture reveals the richness of possibilities offered by master glassmakers. In transparent and frosted crystal, this confrontation of two wrestlers, their bodies entwined, is arranged on a cylindrical metal stopper. The way the crystal is processed and the precision of its workmanship emphasize the interplay of the tensed muscles and reinforce the powerful effort of the two wrestling heroes. It is a magnificent work reminiscent of Cubist constructions – angular, almost faceted – and underscores the masculinity and power of the clashing heroes.
